Sherring and Fricker Families
Samuel Highmore Sherring was born in England in 1830 and became a school teacher. He married Chistian Stone and had a son naming him after himself, Samuel James Highmore Sherring. When a young Samuel was 2 months old, his father passed away. He died in Bicester, County of Acorn, England, at the age of 24 on 22 June, 1855. Samuel James Highmore Sherring was born two months prior on 28 April, 1855.
He left England when in his twenties, while in his Apprenticeship as a Carpenter and Joiner. He sailed to Canada to find carpentry work and later wrote back to Emily Charlotte Elizabeth's, father, John Sherring, for her hand in marriage. Samuel tried his hand at many jobs in Canada and the United States of America but soon decided that these countries were not for him and his wife, Emily. After the birth of their first child, Evelyn Emily, in Canada, on 3 August, 1885, they migrated by boat to Australia. They then moved to Mildura where the "Chaffey" irrigation scheme and related housing development was of interest to Samuel and his building skills.
Below is Sam Sherring's family home in Mildura, Victoria, Australia. He sent this photo and a hand written note back to his mother. They are now retained by his great grand niece, Julie in England.

The Fricker Story Begins
Sam Sherring's great grand niece, Julie, living in England, is helping me piece together the Sherring and Fricker connection. Julie has told me that after Sam's father died, when he was 2 months old, his widow, Christian went on to marry a George Fricker. They had 3 girls and a boy, Sam's half-siblings. The boy, was called another George Fricker. He then married and had two girls and a boy. This boy, yes you guessed it, was also a George Fricker. This George Fricker, had four boys, the second of which is Julie's father, Stephen.
Sam, now settled on his 10 acre fruit block in Australia, was always known to his family back home in England as cousin Highmore. He did go back to visit them at least once, and at one point tried to persuade his half-nephew, to go back with him to Australia but he decided against it. Julie's great-aunt Ethel, his niece, would often talk lovingly of him.
One trip back to England via New Zealand and America is mentioned in his letter to his mother below. Grandpa Sherring, his cousin Katie, and her daughters Edith and Eileen in England.
